The Shopping Street – the opposite of a supermarket

If you took a modern supermarket and turned it upside down, what you’d get is the High Street. Instead of a shoe department, you’ll find a cobbler. Instead of a refrigerated aisle, there’s a butcher. And instead of an electronics section, we have none other than the ‘Radio Doctor’.

In total, there are nine small shops along the High Street, each with its own trade and its own distinctive atmosphere. Take your time to visit them all and imagine what it was like to go from shop to shop across the street – or the whole town – to get everything on your list. It was certainly charming, though modern supermarkets do have their advantages…
