The workshops – from craft to industry

A blacksmith. A clog maker. A printer – and all the other craftspeople. They all began in small workshops, where a single craftsperson could usually make everything themselves – and did. Then came the first machines, which might only handle part of the work, but did it many times faster. From there, craft outgrew the workshop and became industry, with countless machines and an army of workers to operate them.

Sometimes it all happened too quickly, and workers were injured by the machines. In the Machine Workshop, you can witness an accident at work if you press the flashing button. Fortunately, it’s only something we simulate – but all too often, it was a harsh reality.
